Open day for Westwick Row Cohousing.

On Saturday, we welcomed potential future residents to an Open Day for Westwick Row Cohousing — a new 31-home community we’re bringing forward with The Crown Estate in Hemel Hempstead.

The event was held at Leverstock Green Primary School, just next to the site, and brought together members of the emerging cohousing group and those interested in joining. Over a communal lunch, the TOWN team introduced the project and shared the latest designs, including floorplans, layouts and visuals of the new neighbourhood.

The session also included an introduction to cohousing — what it is, how it works, and how the design and development process differs from conventional housing. The group discussed the codesign process, which allows future residents to help shape the design of shared spaces and community life from an early stage. After the presentations, we visited the site to see the setting for the future neighbourhood.

Westwick Row will comprise 31 low-energy homes designed by Archio, arranged around shared gardens and communal facilities. The development will include houses and flats, all with private gardens or balconies, and shared amenities including a Common House with a kitchen, dining space, two guest bedrooms and flexible meeting rooms.

The project aims to create a sociable, multi-generational community with well-designed, sustainable homes and spaces that makes life more sociable and convenient.

TOWN and The Crown Estate will be submitting a planning application for Westwick Row in November 2025, with construction due to begin in Autumn 2026.
