CODESIGN WORKSHOP BRINGS TOGETHER TWO COHOUSING COMMUNITIES FOR NORTHSTOWE.

On Saturday 17th May, future residents of Northstowe cohousing took part in a full-day codesign workshop in Cambridge, bringing together around 30 participants from two groups: Suvana Cohousing, a Buddhist group who will live in Block B, and Northstowe Cohousing, who will live in Block C.
These two communities will share a central, low-car play street and a number of communal facilities within TOWN’s site at Northstowe. The workshop was led by TOWN, with members of the design team from Mole Architects, Guarda Landscape and Homes England.
The session focused on key elements of the design ahead of a planning submission later this summer, including:
- The evolving site masterplan
- Layouts for the common house
- Shared gardens and the central lane
- Interior layouts for all home types
Participants reviewed different layout options and landscape proposals for shared outdoor spaces. The event built on a series of codesign sessions that have been running since November 2024, giving future residents an active role in shaping their homes and the wider neighbourhood.
It was a day full of productive conversation, ideas and momentum as the group moved closer to realising the vision for this new community.
The design team is now working through the feedback, with further resident meetings planned in the coming weeks as the project moves towards a planning application.
